How Colfax Arrests Work
Colfax wears two hats in Grant Parish. It is the parish seat and home to its main justice offices. The Grant Parish Sheriff's Office handles enforcement. The Detention Facility, the Criminal Division, the Clerk of Court, and the 35th Judicial District Court all play a role. Each carries its own piece of the process. An arrest starts with a deputy or officer. The detention staff then build the booking record. That record can name the arresting agency even when GPSO holds the person. Case activity that follows booking lives with the clerk and the court.
The Census Bureau counted 1,428 residents on April 1, 2020. Louisiana lists the town as the parish seat, which is why these offices sit here. None of that creates a Colfax-only booking database, though. The Grant Parish Detention Facility serves Colfax, other municipalities, and qualifying state and federal arrests. Where a person was booked decides where the record sits. The arrest location alone tells you less.
Booking basics: Colfax arrest records show who was booked and the charges filed at the time. The Grant Parish court updates each case from there.
Colfax Policing Coverage Shift
The changeover began with a town resolution. It passed August 13, 2025. KALB reported that GPSO took over law-enforcement coverage after the Colfax police chief resigned and the remaining officers were let go. The Grant Parish Journal covered the town vote and an overtime arrangement too. The reporting does not prove every municipal function vanished for good. Confirm today's coverage with GPSO first.
Older records may still name a Colfax Police Department. Newer ones may point to a sheriff's deputy. Neither label tells you which jail holds the person. A GPDF booking can still list the true arresting agency in its own field. For a fresh incident, ask three questions. Which agency wrote the report, which facility took the booking, and which court received the case? That check keeps an old agency name from being mistaken for a current source.
The source report shows the transition context:

The KALB report explains the shift. A Colfax lookup should start with GPSO while older police references stay historical.
Colfax Official Record Channels
The Colfax Police Department publishes no booking log. Official custody and court sources come first. News archives can add context, but they cannot confirm who is still held.
| Channel | What it answers | Status |
|---|---|---|
| GPSO app | Advertised inmate search, arrests, transfers, and status changes | Official current lead; photo display is not promised |
| GPDF phone | Whether a named person is currently held | Official custody confirmation |
| GPSO written request | Booking record or available photo copy | Official record route by U.S. Mail |
| Clerk and 35th JDC | Charges filed, hearings, and disposition | Official court sources |
| GPSO arrest news | Selected investigation releases | Official but irregular, not every booking |
| Local news and weekly tables | Dated event reporting and historical arrest entries | Secondary; may lag and must be verified |
An absent app result never proves someone went free. The parish's public LA VINE roster page is offline. GPSO still lists VINE services. Call the detention facility when timing matters, then request the record itself for a durable copy.
Finding a Colfax Arrest Booking
Split your search into parts. Current custody, the incident report, and the court case each live in different hands. A fresh arrest takes time to post. Intake involves prints, identity checks, charges, and a property inventory.
- Search the official GPSO mobile app using the person’s full name. Treat it as the best advertised digital lead, not a complete historical archive.
- Call Grant Parish Detention Facility at 318-627-3724 to ask about current custody when an app result is missing or unclear.
- For the booking record or photo, mail a specific request to the GPSO Custodian of Records. Include the full name, approximate arrest date, and suspected agency.
- Ask GPSO which unit wrote the incident report if the agency label is unclear after the Colfax transition.
- Check the Clerk’s Criminal Records Search and the 35th JDC docket for what happened after intake.
Wider booking and mugshot paths are laid out in the Grant Parish booking-photo section. It separates just booked, still in custody, and released. Sentenced to state custody is its own category. Those states are not interchangeable.
Note: A gap between arrest and display can reflect intake work, data transfer, or identity review rather than release.
Colfax Arrest Record Requests
GPSO treats booking information as public. Investigative files are different. So are supplemental materials, juvenile records, medical records, and privileged content, which may be withheld or redacted. Name the exact record you need. "Booking sheet for [name] on [date]" beats a request for everything tied to an event.
Written requests go through U.S. Mail. The sheriff states other transmission methods are not deemed received. Fees apply. The published schedule lists $35 for the first ten pages, $1 per later page, and $3 per photo. No completion deadline is posted. Timing depends on the search, legal review, redaction, and payment.

Records questions: 318-627-3261
Need an initial incident report? The GPSO Records Division sits at the Criminal Building, 220 Cedar Street in Colfax. Call ahead. The jail, the records division, and the clerk each hold different papers, all within the same town.
Colfax Booking to Court
Booking opens a case. It never closes one. An arraignment puts the charges on the record, bond sets the terms of release, and a disposition ends the matter with a dismissal, a plea, or a judgment. GPDF handles arraignment by video. That lets a Colfax case keep moving even as a jail app listing shifts or disappears. For the paper trail, use the Grant Parish Clerk of Court Criminal Records Search alongside the 35th JDC docket. The courthouse sits at 200 Main Street in Colfax. The clerk's listed number is 318-627-3246. Ask about account rules, fees, and certified-copy steps, because a deleted jail entry or a newspaper 'completed' marker is not a court outcome.
The clerk's online records portal displays the criminal case search itself.

For the legal outcome, this court docket is the proper next stop.
Colfax News Archive Limits
The GPSO crime-and-arrests archive holds selected releases. Some include investigation images. It is not a full intake ledger, though. Posts land on no fixed daily schedule. The Chronicle's weekly "GRANT PARISH ARRESTS" table works well as a historical cross-check. Its rows give dates and names. Descriptive fields, statutes or charges, a completion marker, and the arresting agency fill out each line. Publication can lag intake by days. The Grant Parish Journal and KALB cover Colfax through event-driven stories. That helps when an investigation grows or an agency changes hands. Neither outlet runs a complete live roster, however. RecentlyBooked, Busted Newspaper, and Mugshots.com also keep unofficial parish-level pages, and their Colfax entries can be stale, incomplete, or simply wrong. Treat them as leads only. GPSO, GPDF, the clerk, and the court docket come first.
Note: Publication date, arrest date, booking time, and court date can all differ, so compare each before matching a person to a report.
